2007 V Day was pretty spectacular for one of the members of the Duffey family. I'll give you a hint. He just turned 3. Since he just had his birthday on Tuesday, Dylan thinks everything is a celebration if you tell him. Logan is a bit to young and Greg and I are a bit too tired, but I think the three of us still had a great time.
Getting the Day Started Right
First off, Dylan goes to preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I got him prepped by showing him the valentines he was to give out to his friends. They had a Valentine's party at school and did cool games in Movement, his favorite Thursday activity.
While Dylan was having a blast at school, I had a sudden inspiration to do something sweet for Greg on the heart day. Now it may not seem like much, but I thought it was pretty cool. After Logan and I dropped off Dylan, we decided to drop off something special for Daddy. Now my first idea was to go to HEB and get balloons, a 4 pack of chocolate covered strawberries, and a 6 pack of beer and wrap it up in red cellophane to hand deliver at the office. Unfortunately, Logan and I missed our HEB exit so we improvised and stopped at Rudy's for breakfast tacos for Daddy instead. We snuck up the elevator at National Instruments and went to his cube. Of course, Daddy was in a meeting, but Logan and I left a note and ate our Rudy's snack before leaving. Greg arrived about 30 minutes later for his tacos and was impressed. I think.
Valentine's Day Lunch
Without realizing it was V-day, Dylan, Logan, and I had scheduled an after school Luby's lunch with Uncle Brian, our hilarious, lovable friend. Keeping two kids happy at Luby's without diving into the Jello first is pretty hard, but we managed. We also managed to drop about 5 pieces of silverware complete with fits and drop a half full, lid not on at all sippy cup of milk on the floor. The latter kept Brian and I in stitches for about five minutes. Overall, it was a success. Dylan and Logan ate 2 vegetables in one meal and still got their Jello. Plus, I got chicken spaghetti which I love. Although, I have to say Brian did look like the loser husband and father on Valentine's Day that wasn't helping with the kids. Okay, he did run over when milk went ALL over me, Logan's highchair, and the floor. Plus, he keeps the boys entertained. They love him!
Dinner
So for our big meal...GATTIS! Excitement, I know, but, hey, when little one has the flu you don't want to risk taking him out. We already had a scene at Luby's, plus Dylan doesn't believe in dinner these days. In fact, at his 3 year check up, Dr. Enders (LOVE HER!) said to get more protein in him to help his BMI. He's in the 10% weight range. A stick actually. The boy will not eat meat at all, except sausage & pepperoni. Hence, the pizza.
Anyway, after dinner we had our Valentine's party, which Dylan insisted on calling the "Celebration." Of course, Logan kept eating dinner the entire time we opened cards and got our V-day candy gifts. He loved his "baby crack" Gerber puffs. Logan ate half the can. We had to stop him.
Best Part of All
At the end of the day, my favorite thing was that Dylan would say Happy Valentine's Day to anyone, even people coming in the door at Luby's while we were waiting and the big hug and smile I got from him when I came home from handbells last night. It will be great when Logan understands it all, too. Oh, and Greg got me a massage for tomorrow! 10am was the only opening Michelle had which means its not during nap time. That makes it even better!
Hope that you found as much joy in Valentine's as I did.
