So I've been a little out of touch these past few days. I think about writing, but never get around to it. For some reason, I've been in starting/learning new things mode this week. Its just been very busy.
Roasted Potatoes
Earlier this week, I embarked on a cooking adventure. Now for most people this would not be an adventure, but I'm not the most experienced cook and my menus contain a lot of frozen skillet meals that take about 10 minutes to cook. I am an expert and lover of macaroni and cheese though.
When I was at HEB, I decided I wanted to make new potatoes like Luby's does. They always look so good, but I have to pass them up for some veggie that the boys and I will only eat at Luby's. So I bought some small to medium red potatoes. My plan was to find out how to cook them on the internet.
I kept procrastinating. It could be time consuming to cook potatoes and my main dish was Italain breaded pork chops, also a new recipe I was trying from a Fast and Easy recipe magazine that my Aunt Gwen gives to me every year. It is a great publication and I think she is trying to nudge me along because she knows my skill level.
Anyway, I finally Googled "new potatoes recipe" and viola! Its really not that hard! All you have to do is cut them up, put them in a baking pan and put some butter on them. Well, and some other spices, but I only had one of them so they turned out okay. Greg said that he liked them a lot. Even more than my new pork chop recipe. The problem with the pork chops was that they didn't have enough of that "Shake and Bake" taste to them and he's used to that. So shake and bake and my new potato recipe it is!
People Pay me to Do This?
Another new thing this week is that I'm doing some contract work for a lady with a cool idea. My friend Jess hooked me up as she needed some help to get a project done faster. Of course, I know a little about the web and html and php, but I know absolutely nothing about Drupal which is a very funny name if you ask me. I even read why it was called that and it still doesn't make that much sense.
Anyway, I've started doing that and it takes up 10-15 hours of my naptime and weekend time so you see why I've been a little slow on writing.
Final Thought
I'm up a little late tonight as Logan is sick again. He woke up in a fever sweat even though he's on Mortin so we changed his clothes to something cooler and really made him mad. In fact, when we asked him if he wanted to cuddle with Daddy or go back to bed. He pointed to his crib. He just laid there on his new big boy pillow. Guess we are going to the doctor tomorrow.
By the way, Greg just read this last part and wanted me to add that Logan wanted him when he was upset right now. I brought him in our room and Greg took him back to ours and got him to sleep before I could get back with water. I told him he should get his own blog.

Weekend Craziness
Before the weekend description, let me just say that the weather is awesome! Its 80 today and perfect, minus the wind. It makes me want to go to Home Depot and pick out some new spring house project. Yes, I thought that was a weird association to Spring also. I hope this continues and that it doesn't get too hot too fast....
Before the Party
Since both sets of grandparents were in town we did it! Yes, we bought a Sleep Number bed complete with all the fun new accessories. I can't wait to try out my new pillow, but the guy at the store said the experience is better if you do it all at once. We got a 7000 and I can't wait for the first night of sleeping on a 35! Did you know 35 is the most popular sleep number? Who would have ever thought I'd be so excited about a bed!!! I'll keep you posted.
The Big "3"
So the birthday party was CRAZY! Since we have the luxury of never having to visit Chuck E. Cheese on the weekend, we never have been there on a Saturday. First off, there was no parking except in the back extended lot at 3:45pm and when you went inside I have never seen so many kids in my life. Logan didn't even want to get down the entire time we were there, but Dylan was not intimidated and had a blast.
We got to play games (we, being Dylan and Grandmommy) for 30 minutes and then it was pizza time. We had a sweet b.day table as we had all the booths next to us so it wasn't crowded. I guess that is the table you get when you have 12 kids and like 20 adults.
After pizza came the "Live" Show with Chuck E. Cheese. Dylan was right up there with him dancing. He swings his arms back and forth and twists at the hips. I wish I had a video of it. Its hilarious. I don't know where the other 4 birthday party people were, but the 3 year old boys were surrounding a less than energetic Chuck E. (not that they noticed). Dylan loved it when they sang, "I say Happy, you say Birthday. Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday!" I'm pretty positive he thought it was totally for him and that the other birthday kids just got to hang out at his party.
After that was cake and then it was over...Fast! They keep you programmed that is for sure. Most people stayed afterwards to play some more games, but, wow, it was a little crazy for me. Its never as fun to be the coordinator as it is to be an attendee!
What I am Eating at this Moment
So during my high school years, my former best friend, Kyndall, and I had a special treat we would make constantly. I've been craving it lately since I bought the 24 pack of Pilsbury ready to make chocolate chips cookies. So you take 5 chunks of cookie dough and roll it into a big ball. Smush it down on a cookie sheet where it isn't so round. Cook for the regular 9 - 11 minutes. The outside is crispy like the cookie and the inside is warm, mushy cookie dough. Mix it up into a gross looking mess and eat straight from the cookie sheet. Yum! Good thing I'm pregnant and can get away with eating stuff like this since I'm not 17 anymore.

Productivity and a Long Post
Ahhhh...its nice to have a productive week. Most weeks are considered productive around here, but I've gotten several things off of the To Do List this week AND Greg is off playing in Vegas. It would be wrong of me to leave out that my mother is here this week which automatically increases my productivity by 200%.
The Great Thing About Mom
Well, there are several things.
1) She takes the monitor at night and gets the boys up in the morning...EVERY morning she has been here. Fantastic! I get to sleep in even if I am just dozing off and on because my internal clock wakes me up between 6-6:30 every day. Maybe its just telling me to put my ear plugs in.
2) When the boys are napping, she, again, takes the monitor and I can do something productive OR take a nap. I'm about 50/50 on which option I choose this week.
3) We go shopping when Dylan is in preschool. Today we went to the mall and she pushed Logan around while I did a few errands related to my cell phone and my bed of choice (more below).
4) She sits in the car with Logan while I drop off or pick up Dylan from school or with both boys when I need to run in real quick. I admit, I have left the boys in the car to run in Merle Norman real quick before, but I still feel guilty about it. Let me add, I did leave the windows rolled down and could see them from the store which I was in for less than 5 minutes. I'm sure its still illegal...
5) She enjoys the same foods I do. Greg is a big meal eater. Likes to have a side with his meat or whatever. I like snacky meals. Probably because of Mom. Its so much fun to eat a piece of bread with cheese for dinner and then after the boys go to bed break out the chips and Borden French Onion dip - the best FO dip around!
LOVE YOU MOM!!!
What I Actually Accomplished
1) Got a cell phone up and running. Most of you did not know that I lost my cell phone about a week ago. I say lost, but I'm pretty sure it was borrowed and put in some drawer by suspect Logan Duffey. So its in the house somewhere, but even Greg has looked for it and not found it. When I lose something, which is often, Greg always finds it super fast.
So today I took Greg's old cell phone (from 2004) and got a new SIM card for free! I went to 3 different places and the one in the mall was free. Not that I asked the price. I was resigned to paying because I really need a phone as we went cheapo on the home phone plan - 25 calls out a month for like $7. Who needs a real plan at home when you have a cell?
2) Called remodelers - Yes, our house is less than 2 years old, but we've decided that the boys are not sharing a room. Logan is too young and basically, we don't want to deal with room share problems. This decision comes after 3 weeks of sickness in which someone woke up every night. Can you imagine if they shared rooms?
We are making our study into a 4th bedroom and adding a HUGE closet upstairs to store our stuff. So I called 4 companies to get quotes and have already had one guy come by today. Mom came in handy again because she played puzzles with Dylan when he came by.
3) Priced Sleep Number beds - Yes, they are so freaking comfortable. We've had our eye on one since my parents got a bed a couple of years ago. I got quotes today for a queen and king 7000 model. Part of my inspiration was Michelle's blog . She reminded me how wonderful it felt just to lay on these things in the store. I'll keep you posted on the big purchase.
Just For You to Know
My children are all well, which is fabulous!
We ate lunch at Luby's today. They love it. Dylan even ate a whole serving of green beans. What is up with that???? It was a little game to see if they could disappear before I put them on his plate again, but who would have thought that would have worked? I think we are going to eat a Luby's every Thursday.
Logan said I love you today. So cute even if it was prompted by me saying, "Say I love you."
Greg comes home tonight from Vegas. He called the second day into the trip at 6am his time to let me know all 4 guys had lost ALL their money. Did he ever ask for more money? No, but being the great wife I am, I realized he wanted an offer. Plus, it allows me more bargaining power in the future. I'm not ashamed to admit it...
Have a great weekend! I'll let you know how Dylan's 3rd b.day party at Chuck E. Cheese's on Saturday goes!

Valentine's Day Duffey Style
2007 V Day was pretty spectacular for one of the members of the Duffey family. I'll give you a hint. He just turned 3. Since he just had his birthday on Tuesday, Dylan thinks everything is a celebration if you tell him. Logan is a bit to young and Greg and I are a bit too tired, but I think the three of us still had a great time.
Getting the Day Started Right
First off, Dylan goes to preschool on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I got him prepped by showing him the valentines he was to give out to his friends. They had a Valentine's party at school and did cool games in Movement, his favorite Thursday activity.
While Dylan was having a blast at school, I had a sudden inspiration to do something sweet for Greg on the heart day. Now it may not seem like much, but I thought it was pretty cool. After Logan and I dropped off Dylan, we decided to drop off something special for Daddy. Now my first idea was to go to HEB and get balloons, a 4 pack of chocolate covered strawberries, and a 6 pack of beer and wrap it up in red cellophane to hand deliver at the office. Unfortunately, Logan and I missed our HEB exit so we improvised and stopped at Rudy's for breakfast tacos for Daddy instead. We snuck up the elevator at National Instruments and went to his cube. Of course, Daddy was in a meeting, but Logan and I left a note and ate our Rudy's snack before leaving. Greg arrived about 30 minutes later for his tacos and was impressed. I think.
Valentine's Day Lunch
Without realizing it was V-day, Dylan, Logan, and I had scheduled an after school Luby's lunch with Uncle Brian, our hilarious, lovable friend. Keeping two kids happy at Luby's without diving into the Jello first is pretty hard, but we managed. We also managed to drop about 5 pieces of silverware complete with fits and drop a half full, lid not on at all sippy cup of milk on the floor. The latter kept Brian and I in stitches for about five minutes. Overall, it was a success. Dylan and Logan ate 2 vegetables in one meal and still got their Jello. Plus, I got chicken spaghetti which I love. Although, I have to say Brian did look like the loser husband and father on Valentine's Day that wasn't helping with the kids. Okay, he did run over when milk went ALL over me, Logan's highchair, and the floor. Plus, he keeps the boys entertained. They love him!
Dinner
So for our big meal...GATTIS! Excitement, I know, but, hey, when little one has the flu you don't want to risk taking him out. We already had a scene at Luby's, plus Dylan doesn't believe in dinner these days. In fact, at his 3 year check up, Dr. Enders (LOVE HER!) said to get more protein in him to help his BMI. He's in the 10% weight range. A stick actually. The boy will not eat meat at all, except sausage & pepperoni. Hence, the pizza.
Anyway, after dinner we had our Valentine's party, which Dylan insisted on calling the "Celebration." Of course, Logan kept eating dinner the entire time we opened cards and got our V-day candy gifts. He loved his "baby crack" Gerber puffs. Logan ate half the can. We had to stop him.
Best Part of All
At the end of the day, my favorite thing was that Dylan would say Happy Valentine's Day to anyone, even people coming in the door at Luby's while we were waiting and the big hug and smile I got from him when I came home from handbells last night. It will be great when Logan understands it all, too. Oh, and Greg got me a massage for tomorrow! 10am was the only opening Michelle had which means its not during nap time. That makes it even better!
Hope that you found as much joy in Valentine's as I did.

Entering the World of Blogging
Well let me first say this is a total trial run. The success depends on a lot of things - enjoyment, nap time, self motivation... I could go on and on. I was inspired by Jenn, my best friend from 2nd grade. Its actually a great way to keep up with her since I am never good at calling or emailing. The Duffey life has put those things at low priority, which in itself is sad. Maybe I'll work on that after my blogging success or failure. I've always wanted to write stuff down, kind of like a journal or brain dump to get random thoughts out of my head, but I've just never done it. If I could tell you how many times a day I think about random things I'd like to say you would totally be surprised (See Random Thought of the Day at bottom).
I do have a mySpace page, but, jeez, I feel so much pressure lately to check it and reply to people and keep up. Like I said before, I have returning phone call and email problems. I don't really want another outlet to feel guilty about. Luckily, I haven't pursued many friend opportunities. If I didn't want to keep up with you, I just ignore the request, but even that makes me feel guilty. I'm thinking this blog thing will be much less guilt inspiring.
Anyway, so here goes. Wish me luck.
Who am I?
First off, I'm a mother of two wonderful, make your life worth living little boys. They are too cute and they really do have to be since they have been sick for the last 3 weeks. No I'm not exaggerating! Dylan just turned 3 this week and Logan is 16 months. You know, I always said that I would want 2 boys over 2 girls any day and that since I always wanted an older brother that I wanted a boy first.
I'm married to Greg. We've made it through 5 years of fun and crap together so far. Its funny because Mom always told me that her and Dad's first 5 years were the roughest and sometime last fall I felt like Greg and I had settled into where we were supposed to be. Now, do I wish that he would take out the trash everyday even if it isn't full? Of course! He even knows it and every once in awhile he'll try to make it a habit, but in the end we haven't resolved that issue yet.
We're also expecting another addition to the family in August. I'll keep you posted on all the details on that one. I really am excited, but some days (like the past 3 sick kid weeks) I'm thinking, "Oh my gosh, what were we thinking????" Of course, it was like that with Logan too until he was actually here and we proved to ourselves we could do it.
Obviously, with 2 (soon 3) kids I stay home and man the fort. Its the best job to have minus the no sick time and very little vacation. I can't imagine all the things I'd miss if I wasn't home with the kids. Now my memory, general thought process, and sanity is in question on a day to day basis, but so far I'm hanging in there. Hopefully, getting all this stuff out of my brain on on to "paper" will help.
I have to say, I can't believe I'm 30, but as I tell Greg when he makes a smart ass comment, "At least, I'm not 33 like you are." I really don't feel that old and I have to say sometimes I look back and feel like we should all have a go back to 16 day as well as a go back to 21 day. Remember when you could drink more than one and not feel like crap the next day? Ahhh.... I've also upped my "old" standard to 80. So I've still got 50 young years to go!
I really do love life and hope to convey that on this blog. Sometimes you just need to hear other people's happiness, sadness and frustrations to appreciate your own or shed light on how your life really is. Hopefully, this will not only help you, but me too!
So I hope you enjoy Livin' the Duffey Life and yes that is a Tigger head in my picture!
Random Thought of the Day
There is a railroad intersection close to our house and they are fixing the little bars that come down and lights that flash these past couple of weeks. I drive by there at least once a day and cannot believe how many people just go on by without stopping. Whoa! Hello!!! The bars don't work. They aren't even on there. Oh well, I'm lame in my minivan and at least slow down to look.
